Human Evolution and Cognition group was created in 2000. Currently, it is one Associate Unit to IFISC. Its research focuses on the philosophical, anthropological, psychological, psychopathological, paleontological and ethical trails of human nature. The studies carried out have focused primarily on the distinguishing traits of human beings:

- Aesthetic appreciation

- Moral behavior

- Language

The group has also established a partnership with the hospital "Clínica Rotger", and therefore, unites public and private funding for the study of brain processes in healthy and patients.
